收錄於 Panic! At The Disco 的第五張專輯 "Death Of A Bachelor"

Hallelujah"

"Hallelujah" 是希伯來語,意思是 "Glory to the Lord"

字典中的釋義為 "(an emotional expression of) praise and thanks to God"

Hallelujah!"

Brendon

-

Hello my fellow sinners,
First off, thank you. Thank you for always being there. For speaking your mind. For following what you believe. For allowing me to grow. For granting me the opportunity to live my dream. Words simply can't express my full appreciation and gratitude for you.
As I begin what feels like a new chapter of my life, I'm filled with immense excitement and a fresh sense of hope. I've seen this band through every phase, every change, every hardship. And yet my appreciation and love grows with every breath.
So I lift my arms in praise of your greatness. YOU are great. YOU are beautiful. YOU are talented, and smart, and kind, and loving, and generous, and simply amazing.
And you make me want to scream “HALLELUJAH!” from the top of my lungs with every bit of fervor and strength I possess. And I invite you to join me as you have over and over again.
So Hallelujah, my fellow sinners. Hallelujah.

Love,
Brendon Urie

"I grew up in a religious family and, like, that was a very big part of my life, and still, very much, is even though I don't affiliate with any specific religion.

It's just, for me, you know, the spirituality of being able to own up to your sins, as they're called, and take responsibility for your actions really hit me this time around, and so that song really is about that, it's, you know, taking responsibility for things that you felt guilty for in the past and just owning it, because, now, that's a piece of you and you can't get rid of that history, so, that's really what it was.

"Being blue is better than being over it, over it"

Brendon-Urie-kroq-2015-performance-billboard-1548.jpg

In the last five years I’ve felt less resentful about where I came from, my roots in religion, in spirituality,” says Urie who was born into a Mormon family. “I wanted to touch on that and make it a point to recognize our fans and just how much of my work, my job, is my religion. Touring is my religion. Music is all-encompassing—my religion. So, I wanted to celebrate that,” Urie says of the song’s upbeat message.

Brendon

Panic! At The Disco - Hallelujah

[Intro]

Ohh!

噢!

A moment you'll never remember

And a night you'll never forget!

Ohh!

A moment you'll never remember"或許是故事中的主角因為喝醉、或是恐懼等等生理或心理因素,所以記不起來那一刻發生的事情;第二句"And a night you'll never forget"或許就是那個片刻發生的那一晚,在那一晚發生了一些事,然而怎麼發生的印象已然很模糊,只知道那一刻犯下了錯,而往後的日子裡便無法避免的懷抱著關於那一晚的愧疚。

[Chorus]

All you sinners stand up, sing hallelujah (hallelujah!)

There's a little tagline in there that I throw out to our fans, I like to call them my sinners, and I'm a fellow sinner, and so I think that's a special little throw-out to them."

I Write Sins, Not Tragedies"。"

Show praise with your body

Stand up, sing hallelujah (hallelujah!)

And if you can't stop shaking, lean back

Let it move right through ya (hallelujah!)

Say your prayers

Say your prayers

Say your prayers

(Hallelujah!)

Panic! At The Disco: "Hallelujah" is such a strong word. It meant nothing when I said it growing up in church. It is something that I learned through music instead of religion. I love both Jeff Buckley's and Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" songs, too. They are phenomenal.

>Leonard Cohen: "Hallelujah is a Hebrew word which means 'Glory to the Lord.' The song explains that many kinds of Hallelujahs do exist. I say: All the perfect and broken Hallelujahs have an equal value. It's a desire to affirm my faith in life, not in some formal religious way but with enthusiasm, with emotion."

[Verse 1]

My life started the day I got caught

Under the covers

With secondhand lovers

Oh, tied up in pretty young things

In a state of emergency

Who was I trying to be

Panic! At The Disco: The lyrics refer to infidelity, but this song is really about a lot of different things: friendships and letting go, not feeling bad about the past. At a certain point I just had to own up to my mistakes, own up to my sins, forgive myself but also take responsibility for the shit I had done in the past.

I've never been a secondhand man. I was actually thinking of the Elton John song, "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues"—Rolling like thunder, under the covers, and I guess that's why they call it the blues. I guess that's why they call it the blues, that is really what we're talking about here and that's the thing with the blues—you sing about it and it's cathartic.

I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues"(「我想這就是為什麼人們稱其為悲傷」:歌詞大意是希望與愛人共度時光,現實卻讓他們分離);有段歌詞是"Rolling like thunder, under the covers, and I guess that's why they call it the blues"。」

[Pre-Chorus]

Then the time for being sad is over

And you miss them like you miss no other

我想這段歌詞非常呼應 Brendon 說的話:own up to your sins。 A night you'll never forget";雖然我還是很私心認為 Brendon 說的往事就是 Ryan 還有其他團員的退團事件,畢竟鼓手 Spencer 離開後宛如 PATD 一個分界點,自此之後將是 Brendon 的新時代。

And being blue

Is better than being over it (over it)

[Chorus][略]

[Verse 2]

I was drunk and it didn't mean a thing

Stop thinking about

The bullets from my mouth

I love the things you hate about yourself

Just finished a daydream

Who were you trying to be

Who were you trying to be"又是一個"rhetorical question",就像在說「你不該往那裡去」、「你當時不該變成那樣的人」。

[Pre-Chorus][略]

[Verse 3]

No one wants you when you have no heart and

>"Being blue is better than being over it."

I'm sitting pretty in my brand new scars and

Panic! At The Disco: I have plenty of real scars, actually. I have one on my hand from an ice skate. I have a few on my knee from tearing it open. I have had this one on my eyebrow since I was two. My parents tell me I was playing around and I fell and hit my face on the curb really hard. I had to get ten stitches on my eye. But I don’t remember. I have one my thumb from ripping it on guitar strings. I pulled up like this on a guitar chord and it dug in so hard and quickly that it ripped this chunk of skin on my thumb.

You'll never know if you don't ever try again

So let's try

Let's try

Let's try

[Chorus][略]

[Outro][略]
