突然想起寥寥無幾或完全沒有悲傷的艾德新專輯"÷"，或許那是我沒有循環撥放它的原因

this is a special one. i was living in new york during summer last year, writing melodrama – i’d ride across the brooklyn bridge every day, or sit on the subway uptown in the heat, then go back home to new zealand winter for a week at a time to party with my friends. my life was like a weird little etch-a-sketch i kept scribbling on and resetting. and all last summer, i couldn’t shake the feeling that everyone i knew or saw was searching for something – trying to transcend the news and the screaming pavements, drinking that one drink hoping it’d get them someplace higher. this song comes from that endless cycle of evenings and the violent heat of the summer. it took us a very long time to get right, from an aching piano demo to where is it now. it’s close to my heart. i hope you like it.

Lorde: 'So a waster is a drunk person. I think this is maybe New Zealand slang. This line I remember writing down when I was standing on my porch watching my friends fiddle with the speakers inside and thinking "oh, in about ten seconds they're gonna go…" I wrote this lyric in November of 2016, but then in December me and my friend drank a bunch of 1 part champagne, 1 part vodka cocktails which we christened Suicides and DJ-ed a really raucous Christmas party – we had this crazy room going then blew the speakers spectacularly and ghosted out of there. So yeah. Kind of about me. I'm a mess.'

＞blow 是吹的意思，更廣義來說是氣流快速流動的動作，所以也有吹奏、爆炸、洩氣等意思。

＞speaker 可以是發言人，但一般 speaker 是指喇叭、音響等揚聲器；所以 blow the speaker 就是炸音響，把音樂放很大聲的意思。另外補充：拿在手上的、俗稱大聲公的那種擴音器叫做 bullhorn，因為古代是用公牛角做擴音器的XD

Lorde: 'This song started coming together late summer of 2016 in New York and the news was just horrific every day and it was so hot in this sickly incorrect kind of way, like what i imagine the weather in a disaster movie is like just before the bomb hits or the aliens land. It sort of drove me insane, I was walking around Midtown every day and felt like I was this close to ripping my clothes off or freaking out at a stranger. And every day in the news it'd be like "Silver lining! Record high temperatures all weekend" and I'd think "DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS MEANS!!!!!!!! WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!" This is probably the most Melodrama line on the whole album.'

＞on fire 在這首歌裡有太多解釋的方向了：天氣、憤怒、情慾等等，而且這句歌詞讓我想起 Hunger Game 飢餓遊戲的女主角XD！畢竟 Lorde 也幫飢餓遊戲唱過主題曲嘛。

這句直翻是「這就是我們如何變得惡名昭彰的」；而主詞 this 就是指上面的 "get lost in us" 狂歡到忘卻自己的模樣；這多少讓 Lorde 有點心虛的覺得自己太糜爛了（等等後面也會提到），但卻同時不失為一個對抗現實的好方法——當這個世界變得瘋狂，我們需要反抗（即便是消極的沉溺於派對）。
